World of Cats, Cat’s World is the playful yet unsettling imagined world seen through the eyes of the three cat protagonists alongside their numerous stuffed companions. The whole world morphs into the cats’ own with the viewer as either intruder or mere spectator to their strange reality; even the bumblebee and the fireflies feature tiny cat heads. The imagery is drawn from various sources, including my daughter’s childhood bedroom, the overgrown back garden after a summer of rainstorms, and Appalachian evenings sharing the forests with fireflies and a mountain lion. Although slightly unsettling, the whole scene with its vibrant color, sweeping arches, and disturbing yet cuddly cats is meant to express those remembered moments of a home inside which a whole world of magic reverberates.
